Last week, Coach Warren showed us a risk-free way to play Hole 1 at Sunbury. If you've tried it since then, how did it go?
This week, we're taking a more aggressive approach. Let us know if this suits your style of play or if you think the more conservative option is the way to go.
For many golfers, reaching your scoring goals means embracing simplicity in game management and golf swing (be that taking a conservative or aggressive approach). If you want to talk about a simpler journey to achieving your goals this winter, book an assessment today.
Many golfers attracted to launch monitor numbers are obsessed with speed. Club head speed, ball speed. They’re looking for the thrill of distance. But distance can be significantly impacted by ATTACK ANGLE.
Launch monitors give you the opportunity to see just what your potential could be. You can skip the rest of this article and book an assessment to discover your potential now.
Coaches Warren DeFoy and Luke Walker are here to bring you a new series of how to play our own beautiful Sunbury Golf Club.
Watch the video as Warren takes you through a risk-free way strategy of playing the first hole that will get you scoring better and removing those big numbers from your scorecard.

Is this you? The player prone to the infuriating topped shot? Remember two things: 1. Laugh it off, even the very best hit them sometimes. 2. Learn how to lower the chances of it happening again.
Our Learn to Play Programme is one of our biggest hits at Sunbury where we've introduced not only a lot of new golfers to the game, but also introduced them to other like-minded golfers. Because it's just that much more fun to play with others!
Last week, coach Neil Gorman took some of our fantastic ladies who have come through this programme to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and they all had a marvellous time!
"Wonderful day. Thanks Neil for the guided tour, really enjoyed it" Gay Roberts

Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
What was your best score this summer? How would you feel if you shot that on a regular occasion? How would you feel if you shot an even lower personal best?
From all the golfers we've worked with over the past few years, we know that nothing beats these feelings. And that this is the time of the year to put in the work!
Tell us your scoring goal by clicking the button below. We know we can get you there.
We have had a wonderful few months of golf here at the Junior Academy, with sensational summer camps and joyful juniors. And now we're even more excited for a new term to start!
Each of you will be able to close your eyes and think of an exquisite golfing moment. Usually that will be the perfect shot, often unexpected, that surprises you AND your playing partners.
We're thrilled that our team here at Sunbury secured the runner-up spot for Venue of the Year at this year's Women in Golf Awards held at Walton Heath Golf Club last week.
Joey Beale has been under the guidance of Coach Luke Walker since he was 4 years old. It's been an absolute privilege to watch him grow not into a fantastic golfer, but a fine young man too.
Joey's hard work over the years has been rewarded with a spot on the U12 Surrey County team. What a great achievement, well done!
Joey loves attending our Junior Academy sessions here at Sunbury, where new skills are learned, great golf is played and many new friends are made. If you would like your child to learn valuable skills (and become a better golfer), be sure to sign them up today. With fun and friendly coaching from Luke Walker, you can't go wrong!
A massive congrats to the team, and especially Neil Gorman, for the continuous hard work you've put into introducing this wonderful game to so many new golfers. How does your swing look? We want to look at it with you. We don’t want to compare it to Jordan Spieth or Justin Thomas or Tiger Woods. We want to find the small, easy-to-improve areas which if improved, make a big impact on your playing experience.
Congratulations to this group of enthusiastic ladies who successfully completed the Advanced Learn to Play program last week! We had an amazing time throughout the program and ended it with a fun 9-hole session and even some cake!
Their passion for golf continues as they eagerly look forward to Advanced Level 2 starting in September. A ten-week program awaits them to further enhance their skills. To celebrate their achievements and their growing love for the game, we're all going to watch the top Pros tee it up at the prestigious BMW PGA at Wentworth! Very exciting!
If you're interested in joining our learn-to-play programs, do not hesitate to reach out and become a part of our welcoming golfing community.
Mylo Stowe has been having a great time on the course as of late. The 13-year-old has been in the Academy since he was 6, and it's been an absolute pleasure to witness his golfing journey.
In the past three months, he's reduced his handicap by a massive 5 strokes and is now playing off a very respectable 13. In our junior team matchplay games, he's on a 5 match-unbeaten streak. And now the cherry on top... A hole-in-one on the 10th hole!
Congrats on the perfect shot, Mylo! Let's keep this run going!
If I talked about swing fundamentals and goals, most of you would yawn. But the image on the left is the one we most often see. The image on the right is easier to achieve than you might think, and it will produce much better results.
I know that some of you doubt your ability to have a great, or even good, golf swing. Some of you seem prepared to live with the playing experience you have. Don’t.
We want to help as many of you as possible have a better playing experience. What would be the improvement that would make the most significant difference? Why not list one or two? But be positive about how you express your goal.
This is the greatest game on the planet. Every shot that feels right is a beautiful experience. Let’s create more of them and the game gets even better.

Are three-putts ruining your scorecard? Turn threes into twos and not only will your scores come tumbling down, you’ll also move from struggles to excitement!
A reliable short game is the glue that holds a round together. Get up and down a couple more times each round and not only will your game be on the up and up, but you’ll have a lot more fun and probably impress your playing partners too!
The best way to set up more scoring opportunities on your approach is to find more fairways from the tee. Other than it being easier to play from the fairway, it’s also so satisfying to walk off the tee and onto the short grass knowing that’s where you’ll stay. We want you to experience that satisfaction more often.
Spring has sprung and it's time to embrace the longer, (hopefully) sunnier days and use them as an opportunity to take your game to the next level! We have some exciting programmes and events for all ages and abilities coming up, so be sure to check them out below and book yourself, your family, friends and loved ones in!

Introducing our Level 2 Learn to Play Golf programme, designed for all of you golfers who have already learned the basics of the game and are looking to improve your skills and confidence on the course.

Cleanly struck tee shots are the ticket to turning more par 3s into scoring opportunities. And what you do before taking the shot plays a big part in the quality of your strike.
Club selection can be the difference between a hitting the green to set up a birdie chance and missing the green to set up a tough up and down. Let's make sure you turn more par 3s into scoring opportunities!
Last week, we spoke about the importance of knowing your best and average yardage for every club in your bag. And when it comes to par 3s, there are three more yardages to consider if you want to make your own luck and hit more greens.

You’ve probably heard that famous saying: “The more I practise, the luckier I get.” But we’d take that even further to say that it’s not just how much you practise, but how you practise.
Setting up a scoring opportunity on your approach is about more than making good impact with the right club. Use the power of observation to make your own luck and maybe you’ll get even closer to the pin.
Golf can be inexpensive and loads of fun, and with some coaching you can also progress faster than you may have thought possible. The best way to see through the misconceptions is to get into the swing of things.
We’ve got an opportunity to improve your performance
A consistent address is one of the foundations of a reliable, repeatable swing. Have you got specific address cues for your setup with every club in your bag? If not, we’ve got an opportunity to improve your performance and playing experience from tee to green!
Looking for added driving distance and bragging rights over your playing partners? Improving your posture helps increase your shoulder turn, so you can achieve your distance potential!
Last chance to get your kids signed up for our February Junior Camps next week! Only 4 spots left!
This is a great way to get them into golf or to kickstart their season. With games, friendly competitions, new friends and a ton of new things waiting to be learned, your young ones are bound to have a ball!
Behind every fairway and green in regulation is a clubface set square to the target. Do this more often and you will raise your game and lower your scores!
Too many putts can be the difference between a memorable round and one to forget. When it comes to putting, less is more. And if you want to shave strokes and have more fun on the greens, we’ll need to start with some key basics.
It's been an absolute pleasure working with Adam Birch recently. He came in with several issues that most high handicappers struggle with. After working on a few fundamentals, Adam started to notice the difference and had this to say:
"Neil is a brilliant golf professional. I went from a 19 handicapper to hitting in the low teens after just 2 lessons. No more slicing, no more hooks, no more fat shots, no longer do I fear the driver, and I’m saving 3 or 4 shots around the green from short-game improvements too.
Neil is patient and keeps things simple so it is easy to understand, allowing you to put things into practice and see results straight away. You’ll leave his lessons feeling more informed about your swing, more confident with your set-up, and more excited to play golf now that you can hit lower scores.
I highly recommend taking a lesson with Neil over hitting balls on the range or following random tips from YouTube pros. Adam Birch"
Thanks very much for the kind words Adam, keep up the great work!
If you'd like to improve your game and find a whole new level of confidence like Adam did, be sure to get in touch. Learning new skills whilst making lifelong friends, that's what junior golf is all about! We're very excited for our 2023 junior programming to kick off with the February Junior Camp.

Our next programmes are starting on Thursday 2nd, Thursday 4th and Sunday 5th February respectively. Be sure not to miss out on this great opportunity by clicking the button below and securing your (and your friends') spot!
Tired of those pulled or pushed iron shots ruining your birdie chances? Want to play more stress-free golf and enjoy more satisfaction on your approach to the green? If you answered “yes”, then the first step is for us to make sure you’re squaring your irons at impact.
How many fairways do you generally hit each round? What number are you chasing? Spending more time in the fairways is possible with an effective and repeatable swing.
Whether 2022 was another year in your lifelong journey with golf or the year that you started out, thank you for choosing to share it with us! We’ve enjoyed it immensely and look forward to seeing you all back out there in 2023.
A ‘kinetic chain’ of joints and muscles extends from your ankles to shoulders. When that chain is strong, your energy transfer is better, and your swing is more powerful and consistent. But one weak link can cause a breakdown. That’s why mobility matters.
We know that increasing your smash factor by just 0.05 can add 10 metres to your tee shots. But did you know that increasing your pelvic mobility can help you actually hit that smash factor more consistently?
Your golf swing has more power potential than you think. To develop that power, you need a strong foundation of mobility. How mobile are you? A swing assessment can tell us a lot.
You will no doubt receive a ton of marketing messages today with "unbelievable deals and discounts". This might lead to a lot of needless spending on items that won't necessarily bring lasting satisfaction to your life.
We'd however like to offer you the opportunity to INVEST IN HAPPINESS.
Those unbeatable feelings of watching the ball soar further than ever before or disappearing into the cup from a long-range putt. That feeling of confidence standing over a chip or in the bunker knowing you'll get it out the first time. These are the investments that we'd like to offer you this Black Friday.

A more enjoyable golfing experience isn’t only about improving your swing. Simply making better choices has a positive impact. We’re here to help you with both.
With all the deals flying around this week, we can't think of a better gift than that of a better golf game.
The joy this brings, along with the memories made from shooting your personal best, breaking 100 or just being confident to get out of the bunker first time, is priceless!
Our gift cards are the perfect gift for friends, family or even yourself! Give the gift of better golf this festive season.

Negotiating a golf course successfully is about weighing up risk versus reward. Knowing your dispersion patterns enables you to adjust your aim, so you can minimise the risk of going out of bounds and reap the rewards of staying in play.
We can't believe that November is almost here. However, this does mean that exciting times are just ahead with our last Learn to Play Programme of 2022 starting on 12 November.
What better way to end the year than learning this amazing game? If you or anyone you know are looking to start 2023 with some new skills, friends and memories in the bag, then this is for you!
When you think of golf’s scariest shots, what usually comes to mind is the drive on a tight fairway, the approach over a water hazard, the deep greenside bunker and the fairway wood off the deck. But there aren’t any gremlins lying in wait on the green, right?...
Our Girls Golf Rocks programme here at Sunbury encourages beginner girls to learn and play golf in a fun, safe and supportive environment. It's a great introduction to the game, where new skills are learned and the girls have a rocking good time!
From there, they usually end up joining our Junior Academy to continue their golfing journeys and further develop their talents. Below you can see our current awesome Girls Golf Rocks group after their last session, all with an invite to join the academy. Learn more here: https://sunburygolfacademy.com/junior-academy/
Don't forget about our Halloween Camp coming up on 25, 26 & 27 October! This is open to all juniors, involved in a current programme or not. Make sure your young ones don't miss out on the fun!
Hitting a successful approach shot is tough enough when there’s smooth fairway surrounding the green. Add water to the mix and “tough” can easily morph into “scary”.
We currently have a couple of amazing groups having a ball in our Learn to Play programme.
Luckily for you, we have two last groups for the year starting on the 22nd or 23rd of October, so if you or anyone you know has been toying with the idea of learning this great game, be sure to sign up today! By the time 2023 rolls up, you'll be ready to tackle the fairways without fear.
We also have an Improvers Programme starting on the 23rd for those of you looking to improve your expertise and gain more confidence in your ability.
Sign up today and end the year off with some new skills you never knew you had!
You’ve split the fairway on a long par 4 and the green is in sight, albeit a long way away. You know that when you strike your fairway wood well, it has the distance to get you there. But you don’t strike it well very often...
We love introducing this game of a lifetime to new golfers, so if you know of anyone who has been thinking about getting into the game and would benefit from a programme such as this, be sure to pass this on to them!
In this 10-week programme you'll go from the putting green to the range, and to getting on the course in no time! All whilst having a ton of fun and meeting some amazing new people along the way.
We also have an Improvers Group which is perfect for those who have attended a Learn to Play programme and / or who would like to gain more confidence and competence on the golf course.
Your opening tee shot can be quite a nervy moment, even during a solo 9-holes when the course is quiet. But what about those Saturday mornings when the tee sheet is jam-packed and the clubhouse is full? Does that moment fill you with dread? It doesn’t have to.
We’re looking for 6 to 12 golfers to start a shared journey. From the 90s to 80s or 80s to the 70s on your scorecard. We want you to be the master of many golfing skills.
It's that time of the year again where your kids will be having a scarily good time at our Halloween Camp! These camps are all about giving juniors the opportunity to play golf, learn new skills, make friends and have loads of FUN!
Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
We're looking for a few member volunteers that can help facilitate a weekly playing event for new golfers and/or junior golfers. In return, a lead volunteer will be hosted at next year's BMW Championship at Wentworth for an enjoyable day watching the world's best battle it out!
Each of you will be able to close your eyes and think of an exquisite golfing moment. Usually that will be the perfect shot, often unexpected, that surprises you AND your playing partners.
A fun-filled 10-week journey that will take you from amateur to aficionado. Under expert guidance, you'll cover everything you need to be able to book a round with your mates on the weekend and show them a thing or two.
An effective pre-shot routine is one of the main building blocks of a solid golf game. It’ll make you feel more confident and give you a more stable foundation to deal with tricky situations.
Selecting a club, executing the shot and hitting your target is an extremely satisfying experience. By using data about your game – like your dispersion pattern – correctly, we can add more satisfying moments like this to your playing experience.
See the world (or golf course) in a whole new light
A consistent pre-shot routine won’t only help you to keep more tee shots in play, it will also add more clarity, confidence and consistency to your overall game.
We love the par 18 challenge. It’s a great benchmark of your wedge play and putting. And once we know your score, we’re able to create a much more effective short game improvement plan for you. But what score is the benchmark for you?
There are few golf shots more satisfying than a crisply struck pitch that hops and stops next to the hole. To help you hit more of these shots, we’ll need to take a look at how balanced you are.
Here's where they'll learn to play like their heroes
What a weekend of golf! The unbelievable atmosphere and traditions of the Old Course. Tiger's ovation on his final hole on Friday. Rory holing out from the bunker on 10 on Saturday. Then Cam Smith's magic on and around the greens to bring home the Claret Jug on Sunday. It was everything you could have asked for from a major at the home of golf.
When you need to get up and down, the type of shot you play will depend on your lie and distance from the green. But identifying the shot is only half the job, you’ll also need to choose the right club.
The Tour average for greens hit in regulation is just under 70%. For mid-handicap amateurs, it’s about 20%. When you’re hitting one out of five greens, being able to get up and down in two shots (scramble) is essential.
Golf doesn’t have to be a game played over four or five hours or even 18 or 9 holes. You can have a competition with 3 friends in 45 minutes before or after your day starts or ends. A Par 18 Challenge is a great benchmark to track your greenside skill.
With Father's Day on Sunday, we'll be sure he'll be glued to the US Open and thinking about how he will take on the course in the weeks to come. This is the perfect opportunity to get him an improved golf game to say thank you for being an awesome dad!
Our gift cards can be made to any amount and customised with a special message to make your dad feel extra special this Sunday!
A short-game coaching guru once analysed thousands of regular golfers and determined that the average length of the final shot to the green was 19 yards.
It's US Open week! With all the buzz around the golfing world lately, this promises to be another exciting week for golf. But closer to home for all of us, it's Father's Day on Sunday! Out of all the gifts, we know a better golf game is always welcomed with open arms.
1 game. 2 Scorecards. Multiple ways to play better golf
You probably know that the final number on your scorecard has more to do with your performance with a few clubs at the bottom of your bag: your wedges and putter.
Go on a journey where the grass is short and hazards are distant
Most golfers shooting above 90 are struggling with the ball going right (for right-handers). If that’s you, hitting the ball straighter, or even with a gentle draw, gets you on a better journey.
By getting your child into golf at an early age, they'll be making new friendships that could last a lifetime. However, one of the biggest bonuses for your family is the enormous opportunity that it creates for some quality family time throughout the generations.
Shooting below 85 or even near to that number is very difficult if your first move on the downswing takes your hands “outside the line” (that’s a technical term we use to describe the relationship between your swing and the plane).
Last time out, if too many holes were spoiled right from the off, by a slice or big fade off the tee that results in you being in the rough or trees, then the good news is that it's often an easier fix than you think.
There’s nothing like some healthy, fun competition to develop your skills. That’s why we love the par-18 challenge. It’s the perfect way to make short-game practice time with a friend or family member more fun and more effective.
Golf is so much more social than so many other sports. It's also a great way to keep healthy and active, without placing a lot of strain on the body. And we all know how satisfaction and pure elation of hitting a great shot.
We see so many golfers, across the skills spectrum, who live with more greenside anxiety and higher scores than they should. But it doesn’t have to be this way, there’s so much fun on offer around the greens.
The average golfer hits 3 to 6 greens in regulation per round. That means up to 15 holes per round will probably require a wedge shot within 40 yards. That’s why it’s good to get into the habit of regularly playing 9 holes of 40-yard golf.
This is how you can have so much more fun around the greens
While you’re playing a full 18-holes, there’s another game you should keep track of; your average from 50 yards in. Next time you play, keep a record of how many shots you take each time you play from 50 yards out.
From tee to green, these opportunities will make you more keen
We believe every golfer – regardless of skill level – can improve their playing experience. The trick to helping you play better golf in the future, is having as clear a picture as possible of where you are right now.
Our Academy Membership is all about helping you gain confidence and starting you on a path to becoming a full member at the club. To a place where you are going to get more enjoyment from your game and enjoy the benefits of being a club member.
On putts over 20 feet, regular golfers don’t strike the putter face at a consistent spot. Some strikes will be towards the toe and some will be nearer the heel.
How many times have you stood over a really long putt and just HOPED to get it close enough to survive? With the right lie angle for your putting stroke and setup, you’ll KNOW you’re getting it close.
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
We're here to make your lives easier and your golf better! Get ahead of the game this season and come and see where your game is at. From there, we can put together an individualised plan to get you where you want to be, enjoying your golf!
By simply clicking on the button below, choose from the various options and programmes that are running and kickstart your season today!
Focus on what's important and make a ton more putts
The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt. That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo.
Knowing only your ‘carry’ may help you clear the fairway bunker, but it’ll send you rolling off the back of the green. And knowing only your ‘total distance’ may help you stop your approach shot on the green, but it’ll probably land you in that fairway bunker.
Your total score after 18 holes has a lot to do with the clubs at the bottom of your bag. But before we can know just how much, we need to work out your short game score.
Your “dispersion pattern” is the area that you usually land the ball. We determine this pattern for each club in your bag by taking an average yardage spread across several shots. With this knowledge, club selection and game management becomes a lot easier. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3uBZkHg
Give them the opportunity to have as much fun as you do
Need any more reasons to learn to play this amazing game? Pass this message onto your mates, your cousins or even your grandparents, it's never too late to join in the fun!
Here's a stat that you really should be looking at
Hitting a green in regulation (GIR) means you’re on the putting surface in two shots less than par on a hole. But GIR is based on a scratch golfer’s expected performance.
Not sure how to get your kids off their screens and onto the greens? We have a fantastic programme for juniors, which includes all the basics they'll need to take the course on with confidence, obtain a handicap and have a huge amount of fun!
The key to more enjoyment is a long walk down the fairway
Yes, the statistics on the major tours now tell us that those with the longest tee shots are making a great living, but you’re not trying to make a living from the game.
As we come to the end of another unusual and challenging year, we want to thank you for your participation and support. Our community is stronger as a result!
The big week is finally here! For those of you who are still scrambling for gifts, don't worry! We have you covered. Get your loved ones a ticket to better golf today with a lesson voucher!
Anyone can become our next Student of the Year. It doesn't matter what your current form is like or your skill level, it's all about reaching your full potential that makes us happy!
Phil was struggling with certain aspects of his game and after nearly giving up entirely, decided to have a lesson with Guy. As we're sure you can tell from his email below and the fact his handicap dropped by 4 strokes, Phil is now a very happy golfer that won't be leaving the game any time soon!
Our last video in our sloping lie series is addressing the most fun one, the uphill lie. Take a look at the video and get some tips on how to make sure you get the best strike possible.
We only have two spots left for our Tricky Lies Masterclass next Friday, 3 December, so be sure to book your spot asap!
Forget scores and handicaps for a moment. Picture a shot you’ve hit recently that felt great. A shot that sounded sweet, flew true, and landed softly. Those are the moments we play for.
After addressing the different side slopes last week, we're now looking at how to play the ball off a downslope. Check out the video and see what type of small adjustments you can make so that you hit the purest shot possible and can continue walking down the slope with a smile on your face!
If you'd like any help with conquering the slopes, as well as some other tricky lies you might find this winter, join our Masterclass on Friday 03 December. Your scorecards will be forever thankful!
It might be long and wet but let's get you home dry
Playing from long, wet grass comes with the territory at some courses during the winter months. But your golf experience doesn’t have to get stuck because of it.
We've got your winter planned out for you right here
With an epic summer of golf now behind us, some of us may know exactly what we'd like to improve before next season. However, others might not quite know what aspect of their games will have the greatest impact on their scoring potential.
How would you feel being the longest in your fourball?
Let’s create more great experiences for you. Let’s create greater thrills and better walks. Let’s have a look at your tee-shot efficiency: your impact position and consistency, and your launch conditions created.
Whatever their ability level, golf can help children with their physical, mental and emotional development. Among other things, they will learn gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, etiquette and how to safely socialise. Plus, it's fun!
We were overwhelmed by the amount of positive responses we got from our newsletter that went out last week. Our winter programmes that we have planned are going to put more friendship and social connection back into golf while encouraging you to reach new heights TOGETHER.
You might not be a Tour pro, but you can still win big
How fast do you swing the clubhead? How many yards do you hit your tee shots? With those two numbers we can calculate how ‘efficient’ you are with your ‘yards per mph’ measure.
Golf is meant to be a journey shared. In fact, well over 50% of golfers say that “fun with friends” is MUCH more important than being competitive. Golf is a ‘human’ pastime. We want to put more friendship and social connection back into golf while encouraging you to reach new heights TOGETHER.
Pure satisfaction is so much closer than you think
If you’re shooting in the 90s then what if it took less than 20 hours of learning, practice, and feedback to get into the 80s? Let's get those hours in before next season starts.
Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
You’re invited to an exclusive on-course session with us, where you'll find out which areas of your game will help you improve your game the most in the shortest amount of time possible.
This won't surprise us, but will definitely help to surprise you
This is one of the craziest years we’ve ever experienced. So let’s hit the reset button and be even crazier. Let’s make this the year we play better golf than ever.
Away from the screen, real connections are made on the green
The past 18 months have seen ‘connection’ become more digital than ever before. While that’s enabled many adults to keep working, it’s deprived many children of school, sports and friends. Golf can make up for this with skills development, physical activity and friendship.
Knowledge is power. Power gets you further down the fairway
Some tee boxes are especially scary and intimidating. But you can gain the upper hand with an understanding of your dispersion patterns. This knowledge enables you to adjust your aim and minimise risk, freeing you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Using your dispersion patterns gives you a much better idea of where to aim to keep your scoring chances as high as possible. You can use dispersion to better manage a new course, and even to score on it as well.
We're lucky to have some pretty awesome students here at Sunbury Golf Academy and Shaun Deacon and Ryan Price are two perfect examples.
Shaun came in with a big fade/slice that was costing him a lot of distance, while Ryan was struggling to maintain his height through the swing and was hitting a lot of heavy shots.
These two have been putting in some amazing work and are starting to see the results. Shaun has turned his slice into a neat little draw (as well as gaining a ton of distance) and Ryan is now hitting it crisply and starting to have a lot more confidence in his driver.
Needless to say, these two were battling it out recently at Pyrford GC, where Shaun just managed to come out on top with a fantastic score of 36 points, beating Ryan by a single point. Keep up the great work lads and I'm sure we'll be seeing those scores continue to plummet!
If you're interested in turning your weaknesses into strengths and getting a lot more joy from your game, please don't hesitate to reach out!
The best decision you can make, over and over again
Game management is about weighing up risk versus reward. Knowing your dispersion patterns enables you to adjust your aim, so you can minimise the risk of going out of bounds and reap the rewards of staying in play.
If there's one thing we can help you improve this month, this is it
Dispersion patterns are easy to determine and once you understand them, you’ll know where to aim to minimise your risk of landing in hazards or out of bounds.
Anne came in for a lesson this past Saturday where we worked on one or two things and next thing you know, we're getting fantastic messages like this! Congrats on a fantastic performance, it's only going to get better from here!
If you would like to smash your golfing goals like Anne, please do not hesitate to contact us for a lesson. This is what it's all about for us!
Make the most of the long sunny days with us here at Sunbury Golf Academy. We have been having a ball introducing new golfers to the game and improving those who are already playing!
With smiles aplenty, we have some amazing events lined up for the end of July and the beginning of August.
Now is the time to book yourself into our No More Slice masterclass where you will learn how to get rid of that pesky slice! We can't think of an easier way to get more joy from your time on the course: https://bit.ly/31TjKfH
Our Junior Summer Camps have also been going down a treat with the younger ones, where they are developing their skills and growing their confidence (whilst having a ton of fun!): https://bit.ly/2Y8vBnV
This past weekend we hosted our end-of-term finals and what fun it was! Some great golf was played and many new friends were made. Congrats to everyone for taking part and making it such a fantastic event.
Our champions were as follows: Premier League - Thomas Randall Championship - Jack Manders Division 1 - Charlie Aldridge
As you can see from Charlie's smile, a great time was had by all. If your younger ones would like to get involved in our awesome junior academy, we still have some spots left in our junior camps coming up at the end of the month. Be sure to check them out and book their spots today!
Most golfers shooting above 90 are struggling with the ball going right (for right-handers). If that’s you, hitting the ball straighter, or even with a gentle draw, gets you on a better journey.
The Open proved to be an unbelievable display of golf from some top performers. From Louis dominating the first two days and seemingly not missing a green, Brooks' final day charge and Collin Morikawa's flawless display on Sunday.
However, not everyone faired as well and even the Pros need some help from time to time. Bryson was having a lover's quarrel with his driver and Phil Mickelson (former Champion Golfer of the Year) opened with an 80.
If you need some help like Phil or Bryson, we've got some great events lined up. Be sure to book your spot today!
We hope you're as excited about the amazing golf that's going to be played this week at Royal St George's! But why leave all the good golf up to the Pros when you can start playing more amazing shots yourself?
There's plenty of great golf to go around! Beginners can join our Learn to Play Programmes; fix your slice with our No More Slice masterclass or get your kids involved in our Junior Summer Camps!
Shooting below 85 or even near to that number is very difficult if your first move on the downswing takes your hands “outside the line” (that’s a technical term we use to describe the relationship between your swing and the plane).

We've been having an awesome time introducing golf to so many new golfers this summer. From young to old, this game has something to offer everyone.
If you or anyone you know would like to get involved and have a smashing good time, we have just what you're looking for. Our Summer Camps are a perfect way to spend the sunny days outside for the younger ones; while our Learn to Play programme starting on Thursday has a few more spots left. Improve the experience for everyone | Starting 08 July
There are so many exciting events such as The Open and Ryder Cup just around the corner. Won't the experience be so much better if we can share it with those who might not be playing golf yet?
Whether it’s the immediate benefits like fun, outdoor exercise and family time or long-term benefits like physical and mental development, golf has so much to offer your child.
We're absolutely loving the number of new golfers joining the game these past few months, young and old! It really seems that we've come to appreciate our time outdoors a whole lot more, and what better way to do it than on the course with some mates?
Our Learn to Play programmes have been a massive hit and teach you everything you need to know to take on the course with confidence. So if you or anyone you know would like to learn this wonderful game, our next programme starting on Saturday 26 June only has two spots left. Just when you thought your dad had everything, you got him a whole new golf game! A set of new skills that will provide endless enjoyment and provide many a memory.
Between 50 and 60% of your shots are from 100 yards in. The secret to playing better golf and having more fun is here.
PGA Professional Warren DeFoy is hosting a masterclass tomorrow from 10:00 - 11:30 to show you just how you can get down in three shots or less from 100 yards.

Walk away from every green with a smile on your face
On putts over 20 feet, regular golfers don’t strike the putter face at a consistent spot. Some strikes will be towards the toe and some will be nearer the heel. Many golfers overestimate how often they middle it. Here’s a quick and easy way to see for yourself.
One of my regular clients, Jane Gear, recently sent me this mail below. I wasn't sure where it was going when I started reading it, but absolutely loved how it ended!
Jane has been working hard on her game and the results showed when she won the Spring Meeting at Malden Golf Club last week. A fantastic achievement at this event which had plenty of ladies participating!
As you can tell from the mail, she likes to keep herself humble, even when the going is good. We really admire your work ethic, Jane, and can't wait to see what else you can achieve this season!
If you'd like to put in some work and achieve similar results, why not book yourself in for a session? Simply click on the button below and see what type of lesson would suit your needs. We have something for everyone here at Sunbury Golf Academy!
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
Paul Ash recently came in for some work on his swing and has been pleasantly surprised with the results. Congrats on the results Paul, we're sure they will only keep on coming!

There's nothing quite like golf in the springtime, especially after the winter we've just had. So come spend some time with us this May. Soak up the sun, meet some awesome new people and most importantly, get that unmatched satisfaction from improving your golf.
A survey conducted at several golf clubs, revealed that less than 2% of golfers between a 20 and 5 handicap intended to have any coaching in the next 12 months. The attitudes to better golf were also interesting, especially across the age groups. We wonder what the view is at our facility?
Fancy a fun-filled day that will be more beneficial to your game than any previous lesson you might have had before? For only £150, this is the perfect opportunity for you and a friend to learn new skills, have a meal with your Pro and then test these skills out on the course.
Take a look at Oscar Marczyk's first two chip shots ever! With some simple tips and perfect contact from Oscar, he nearly holes them both!
If you'd like to work on your game and strike the ball as well as Oscar, get in contact by clicking on the link below. We'd love to help put a huge smile on your face after you hit a crisp shot.
Yes, the statistics on the major tours now tell us that those with the longest tee shots are making a great living, but you’re not trying to make a living from the game. Most of you are looking for a great social experience and a good or better golfing experience.
We have had a year that has reminded us of how important the outdoors, space, and our health is. If you play golf, then you should consider yourself to be a very lucky person. Spread that love to people you care about.
“You drive for show, but putt for dough” was a saying that used to have some relevance to tour professionals and the highly competitive. It’s a lot less relevant to them now (as proven by the big-hitters at the top of the money list) but was it ever relevant to the regular golfer?
Good afternoon everyone, We've had a busy first week back, with a full golf camp this week. Lots of fun games and challenges, including use of our new TopTracer Driving Range!
We have a few places available for the Camp next week, so please contact us and find out what availability we have:
Monday 12th April - Friday 16th April 9am - 4pm

“You drive for show, but putt for dough”. Do you though? Bryson DeChambeau (1st on the Fedex cup ranking) is only 38th on the list of strokes gained on the green, but is 1st for the equivalent stat off the tee. And did you know Viktor Hovland (4th on the Fedex list) is 90th on his putting stat but 5th in strokes gained off the tee?
With less than a week to go till golf is back, be sure to make your child's Easter break that much more fulfilling. Having fun outdoors, learning new skills that will stick with them for a lifetime, and making some new friends; now doesn't that sound exciting?
Getting a grip on the basics of the game from an early age sets you up for life. These basics will stay with you, even if you do take a break from the game.
The only thing more exciting than being able to play golf again
Thanks so much to all those of you who have already signed your kids up for the Junior Easter Camps. Spots are filling up fast, so to make sure your child has an unbelievable time learning this great game next month, be sure to book their spots ASAP!
We can't believe it's March already! Although we might not be able to just yet this shouldn't stop us from getting excited about getting back out on the course. With the year speeding on, our Junior Easter Camps are just around the corner now.
Children today have so many ways NOT to go outside. Whether it’s TVs, PCs, tablets or smartphones; a digital world of instant streaming and gaming options is there to keep them indoors.
We're still waiting on the All Party Parliamentary Golf Group to confirm regulations for the return to golf but we can be confident in 1-1 coaching being allowed and our Junior Camps going ahead in the Easter holidays!
Our lesson diaries are open, and we've had lots of enquiries already. Please get in touch ASAP to book your lessons for the first few weeks as spots are filling up fast!
Enjoy your first round of golf back by preparing with a lesson from your PGA Professional.
See you all soon!

Family time on the fairways, what's better than that?
Children develop better when their family environment is supportive and positive. Golf gives families an opportunity like few other sports to spend several hours together. This gives you the time and space to provide your child with positive feedback.
Golf brings together a wide variety of people from all walks of life. For children playing golf, this diversity helps to broaden their worldview and gives them the opportunity to form new friendships.
Golf etiquette and values foster behaviours and skills that will help your child deal with life more effectively. The golf course can be seen as a safe and fun testing ground for real-world challenges.
Stay healthy, stay safe, and most importantly, stay active!
It’s possible to improve your golf game from home. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and certain exercises are particularly good for your swing.

Following the Government's announcement last night all coaching activities will cease until further notice.
If you have golf lessons booked your coach will contact you to reschedule these to a later date.
We will be in touch during Lockdown with regular news, tips, challenges and updates. We're excited about getting back to golf in the spring and look forward to welcoming everyone back to our club when it is safe to do so.
Please stay safe, and do reach out if you have any questions.
Playing from bunkers and heavy rough is tough enough as it is. But winter adds water and mush to the mix, and without a game plan it can be tough to escape.
Unfortunately in the game of golf, as in life, there aren't any quick fixes that have long-lasting positive effects. This is why our coaching packages have been so popular this year. To help you play better golf consistently and make positive changes to your life.
Muddy lies come with the territory during winter. But your golf experience doesn’t have to get stuck because of it. We’re here to help you play better golf this winter.
It's been a long month away from our beloved golf course, but what's made it even longer is not having been able to see all of you! Helping all of you achieve your goals is what gives us the energy to give you our best efforts. That's why last night's news has got us so excited that we can still end of this crazy year on a really high note!
Thanks to everyone that entered in our two Masters competitions this past weekend. Congratulations to our winners who did incredibly with their very well-educated guesses!
Comp 1 - Bryson DeChambeau was 9-under par on the par 5's for the week and we had someone correctly guess it on the number!
Comp 2 - Bryson’s total driving distance and stats at Augusta for all par 4’s & 5’s for the four days: Total yardage - 17,920 yards (56 drives in total) In miles - 10.18 miles Average length of drive - 320 yards
The closest to that answer was 17500!
Be sure to follow this link to our Facebook page to find out the winners (and why not give it a like while you're there!): https://bit.ly/3plc5k3
Some gifts are more intangible than others. The confidence of believing in your ability. The satisfaction of a crisp iron shot. Watching a ball disappear into the bottom of the cup.

Blowing away another myth. It’s quicker than you think.
Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
The four most effective ways we can take your game to the next level
This month, we’ve asked you to consider how your year in golf has been so far and what areas you can improve. There are many aspects to consider, and it can all seem a bit overwhelming, but we’re here to help you stay on track.
Ryan came to me 6 weeks ago after just taking up the game. He has improved unbelievably! Sticking to a routine of having at at least an hours worth of coaching a week and practicing between lessons. This dedication has now been rewarded with an ace! A hole in one on the 7th hole at Sunbury Golf.
Ryan came to me 6 weeks ago after just taking up the game. He has improved unbelievably! Sticking to a routine of having at at least an hours worth of coaching a week and practicing between lessons. This dedication has now been rewarded with an ace! A hole in one on the 8th hole at Sunbury Golf.
Whether you’ve just started playing golf, or have lost count of how many years you’ve been playing, there’s always room for improvement. Think back on the past nine months of golf. What part of your game would give you the biggest thrill if you improved it?
If you’re scoring in the 90s or 100s, the question isn’t “can you go lower?” but “how low can you go?” And more importantly, “how much more fun can the game be?”
Some tee boxes are scary. That’s down to course design, something you can’t control. But with an understanding of your dispersion patterns, you can adjust your aim to minimise risk. That frees you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Not one, but two opportunities to improve your scores
The Course Management Masterclass | 19th & 24th September
Shooting lower scores and playing better golf doesn't mean having to change your technique.
By using your dispersion rates, we can get you as far down the fairway as possible, but still keep you in play. This gives you better opportunities to score without taking unnecessary risks.
Only golf test robots hit it dead straight every time
Stay in play - an easy way to improve your aim
Only golf test robots hit it dead straight every time. Yet many golfers begin every hole trying to do just that. This leads to dropped shots, higher scores and less fun. Dispersion patterns are easy to determine and once you understand them, you’ll know where to aim to minimise your risk of landing in hazards or out of bounds.
I hope you're well! Staying safe and enjoying this precious time with your family!
I am hugely missing the game and thinking of ways which i can still support your development through this unprecedented time.
As you may know , i have a Facebook page which i run alongside my brother called Golfers HQ. Here we create interactive and informative posts about the game . Please give us a follow @; https://www.facebook.com/golfintheuk/
We have also set up a YouTube channel called Golfers HQ Academy. This will contain videos of various different development factors including ; - Swing development (information and drills) - Skill acquisition - Short Game Development - Product reviews - Course Play and Management Please subsribe to us @ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8a7e9KRGdPsmCT8e62N0Tw
Lastly , i will be giving Online Golf lessons with the use of Swing Catalyst Technology . This allows me to analyse videos of your swing with voice overs and art work to clearly outline and discuss potential areas of improvement . I have uploaded a swing analysis of my brother to Youtube for you to see what it would look like. Drills will be sent over with this to help you implement these changes into your swing .
The first 10 Swings i receive will be analysed FREE of charge
The picture of Golf development is changing and i am here to support you and your Golf .
If you would like an Online Lesson , please email me on luke@sunburygolfacademy.com. Or if you would like to discuss any aspect of Golf or your game , please contact me on 07791160874 or any of these social media platforms.
